Masquerade Ball Wedding Reception

New - MY MOTHER AND 'A RIVER Donatella Di Pietrantonio

DONATELLA DI PIETRANTONIO
MIA MADRE E' UN FIUME
Elliot Edizioni

Un esordio stupefacente, che segna la scoperta di una scrittrice dallo stile magistrale. Il racconto poetico e indimenticabile di un “amore andato storto da subito” between a mother and a daughter.

"Your name is Viola Esperia, called Esperina.
(...)
Our love went wrong, now. He was too polite to afford to sacrifice the pleasure of being with her child.
(...)
first I was not in his thoughts and I have endured. As an adult I have appealed to his story, but I did not believe enough. "

A woman, now elderly, showing the first signs of the disease that takes away the memories, identity, the very meaning of existence. It is time for her daughter to take care of her and help her rebuild her story, their story. So begins the tale of daily large and small events, from the birth of the mother, Hesperia, and his five sisters, born of a veteran returning from the Great War and the communist country from a straight and elegant, despite the efforts of the campaign, the animals and home. The threads of their lives take place from the forties to the present day, in Abruzzo a "bright and harsh," which emerges from the pages as if it were a mythological land and distant. Day after day parade members of the family, the inhabitants of the small village still without water or electricity, so people linked to a greedy land, barely tolerated by transfers short distance - looking for a job, the opportunity to attend a school "in town" - departures that are transformed into real migration for the sole purpose of the return. Memories are sweet and cruel, full of life and truth, which reconstruct the history of a relationship and an Italy that seemed so distant yet still present in the history of each of us.
